Description	:	Elwyn G. Webster, 41, passed away Thursday evening, June 13, 1974 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Waverly where he had been a patient for 9 days. Elwyn was born on Sept. 6, 1932 in Waverly, the son of George and Lucinda Westendorf Webster. He was baptized on Oct. 14, 1932 in the Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly by Rev. C. Webster, 41, passed away Thursday evening, June 13, 1974 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Waverly where he had been a patient for 9 days. Elwyn was born on Sept. 6, 1932 in Waverly, the son of George and Lucinda Westendorf Webster. He was baptized on Oct. 14, 1932 in the Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly by Rev. C. Gabler and was confirmed in the same church in June, 1946 by Rev. Roy Winkleman. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1950, and graduated from Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls in 1954 with a B. A. Degree. Elwyn had received the Purple & Old Gold Award for conspicuous achievement in drama. For the next two years he taught English, Speech and Drama at Britt, Ia, and in 1956 moved to New York City where he attended drama schools for 3 years and participated in many small theatrical productions both as actor and director. For the past 15 yers Elwyn has worked for the National Council of Churches of Christ in the Foreign Relations Department of Church World Service. He became ill early this spring, had surgery for a brain tumor, seemed to be on the road to recovery until stricken about 4 weeks ago, then with his parents returned to Waverly from New York City. He was a member of Judson Memorial Church in New York City. Elwyn is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Webster of Waverly. Funeral serivces were held Monday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at the Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly with Rev. George W. Campbell officiating, assisted by Mr. Melvin Meyers and Miss Nancy Nicelo, representatives of National Coouncil of Churches of Christ, New York City. Casket bearers were: Robert B. Bruns, Darrel Hoppenworth, Dale L. Coonradt, James A. Lynch, Don L. Hagemann, Douglas L. Marsh. Burial was in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. The Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home im Waverly was in charge of arrangements. MEMORIAL IN NEW YORK FOR E. G. WEBSTER 7-3-1974 Memorial services were held for Elwyn G. Webster at the National Council of Churches Interchurch Center Chapel in New York City at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3. Melvin B. Myers, Director of Material Resoures Program and Dr. Eugene L. Stockwell, Associate general secretary for Overseas Ministries, as well as other co-workers and close friends were participants in the service and gave special tributes. Elwyn joined the National Council of Churches in August, 1959, and at the time of his death was Assistant Export Manager for the Material Resources Program of Church World Service. During his time with the Council of Churches, he received numerous letters of commendation for his excellent work, as well as N.C.C.C. Outstanding Performance Award.
