In 1910 the family moved to Skidmore where Edward became a mail carrier. Elza attended the Skidmore School until 1919. Then he took a business course at Chillicothe Business. Here he refused an athletic scholarship and returned hoe to farm for John Barrett. In 1924 he was married to Myrtle Brown, a teacher and daughter of Jonah Brown. To them were born four sons: Douglas, Donald, Dean and Duane. The young couple rented land from his father-in-law. After his father-in-laws death, he bought 200 acres of his land and rented or leased other land from the Brown family's holdings west of Skidmore. Elza was an excellent farmer and he and his wife were people of integrity and ability. They were members of the Christian Church where Elza served as elder and secretary of the board. Myrtle was a Bible Scholar and taught Bible Prophecy in various churches and camps. Her death occurred on October 22, 1972. Elza also served on school and township boards and as Chairman of the Red Cross Committee. He was active in the Lions Club and in Punkin Show activities. On April 27, 1974, he married Agnes Barrett Harvey. He then sold his farm and moved to Skidmore. His death occurred July 14, 1977 and he was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery beside his first wife. His death was a loss to family, friends and community. Elza was a mail carrier and a farmer.
