Funeral services for Emanuel Gross, aged 18, a former Ritzville boy, who died at Dryden on Tuesday, Dec. 4, were held from the Philadelphia Congregational church, Ritzville at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. Young Gross was born at Ralston, May 8, 1910. He attended the grade schools near the place of his nativity and later entered the Ritzville high school, which he attended until June of 1928. In July of this year he moved with his mother to Peshastin, and later to Dryden, where on July 17 he underwent an operation for appendicitis. A short time later a second operation was necessary because of the development of an abscess, from which he never recovered. The deceased is survived by four sisters, four brothers and his mother. The sisters are Mrs. David Jeske, Mrs. O. H. Scarbery and Mrs. Russell Logan. The brothers are Fred R., J. F. and Gottleib Gross. The latter was unable to attend the funeral, as he resides in a remote part of Canada. (Although it says four sisters and four brothers, only three of each were listed) Schoolmates of the deceased acting as pallbearers included Forrest Haight, Clyde, Lester and Guy Van Vleet, Bethel Stromberger and Alex Meyer. Interment was in the Ritzville cemetery following funeral services conducted by the Rev. George Zocher. Thank you Sue Gardner for this transcription. He is not listed in the cemetery plot records.
