On last Saturday evening June 15, at 5 o'clock occurred the death of Emele Kohler, wife of Innick Kohler of this place. Mrs. Kohler had been sick with dropsy for a long time and her death was not unexpected. However her friends hoped against hope that she might recover, but she gradually became weaker till death relieved her of suffering. Emele Miller was born in Guttenberg, July 27, 1863. She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Miller. When she was a small girl her father and mother both died and she was thus bereft of the kind advice of a mother and the protective care of a father. On April 28, 1881, she was married to Innick Kohler, who was also born and raised in Guttenberg. As a result of this union three children, two girls and one boy, all of whom are still living. Mrs. Kohler has always been a devoted member of the Lutheran church and was buried under the auspices of that church. The funeral, which was a large one, was conducted by Rev. Braun, of Farmersburg, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. She was buried in the city cemetery. Besides a husband there are three children left to mourn the loss of a dutiful wife and an affectionate mother. The children are Anna aged 20, John 18, and Clara 12.
