Mrs. Emerine Bowen, 85, a lifetime resident of Wapello County, died at 7:30 AM today in her home, 331 Church St., after a heart attack. Mrs. Bowen had been in poor health for some time. She had lived on a farm 8 miles west of Ottumwa until 32 years ago, when she moved here. Since then she lived in Ottumwa. She was born August 25, 1851, the daughter of Absolom and Catherine Clark. On March 3, 1869 she was married to Daniel F. Bowen in Wapello County. The Bowens lived on the same farm from their marriage day until they moved to Ottumwa. Mr. Bowen preceded her in death in 1929 on the same day of the year and the same hour of the day. Two infant daughters and two sons, Fred F. and Edward E., also preceded her in death. At the time of her baptism into the Christian church in January, 1870, the ice on the river was broken for the ceremony, she had often told. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Alice Grooms, Mrs. Victoria Roberts, Mrs. Mabel Leach, Mrs. Constance Sallee of Ottumwa and Mrs. Lucy McGlothlen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one son, George W. Bowen of Ottumwa; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Caroline Arnold of Redwood City, California; one brother, Henry Clark of Kansas City, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 PM in Johnson's funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Roy C. Leeds of The Davis St., Christian church. Burial be made in the Shaul cemetery.
