Description	:	Emery Carson Dean, 82, of Ottumwa died at 11:33 a.m. July 28, 2019 at Hospice House. He was born June 3, 1937 in Ottumwa to Emery Emerson and Cora Lucille Davis Dean. He married Judith Taylor; parents to daughters, Tammy Parrish, Lisa Taylor, Dana Walden and son, Christopher. They later divorced. He married Phyllis Paxton Fitzsimmons on February 2, 1980. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and retired from Ottumwa Regional Health Center Plant Operations in 1999. He was born June 3, 1937 in Ottumwa to Emery Emerson and Cora Lucille Davis Dean. He married Judith Taylor; parents to daughters, Tammy Parrish, Lisa Taylor, Dana Walden and son, Christopher. They later divorced. He married Phyllis Paxton Fitzsimmons on February 2, 1980. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and retired from Ottumwa Regional Health Center Plant Operations in 1999. He owned and operated Dean's Machine Shop, repairing washers and dryers. Surviving is his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Tammy and Lisa of Alabama, Dana of Georgia; a son, Christopher of Alabama; step-daughters, Kelly Smithburg of Tomah, WI and Joani Johnson of Knoxville, IA; step-sons, Robin Fitzsimmons of Agency, IA and John Fitzsimmons of Cortland, IL; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren; and a sister, Gerverna Johnson of Washington state. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Charlotte Stratton; a brother, Vern "Buster" Bice ; a grandson, Andy Smithburg and great-grandson, Keenan Rockhold. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in McCormick Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
