At the age of six years he moved with the members of his family, to Brooklyn, Iowa, where he spent most of his active life, farming in Poweshiek county. Read More	Grinnell (IA) Herald; June 8, 1950 EMERY JORDAN BENTON Emery Jordan Benton, son of William and Louvina Moorhead Benton, was born in Scott county, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1859, and passed away June 4, 1950, in Grinnell, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 19 days. At the age of six years he moved with the members of his family, to Brooklyn, Iowa, where he spent most of his active life, farming in Poweshiek county. On Nov. 14, 1883, he was united in marriage to Minnie Keysor. To this union ten children were born. His wife and three children preceded him in death. Mr. Benton was one of a family of eight children, who have all preceded him in death except one brother, David Benton of Chicago, Ill. He and his wife united with the Brethren church at Brookyn in 1897. He was also a member of the IOOF lodge of Malcom for forty-five years. He leaves to mourn his death five daughters, Mrs. Tressa Byers of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Ada Torrances of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Alma Gwin of Grinnell, Mrs. Wilma Fiser of Victor, and Mrs. Xavie Flaherty of Chicago, Ill., two sons, Guy Benton of Grinnell and Delbert Benton of Victor, 30 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the McAninch chapel in Victor Wednesday, June 7, 1950. Songs by Mrs. Naomi Shaull and Mr. Hollis Fish were "Rock of Ages," and "Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. George Keller at the organ. Pallbearers were 6 grandsons.
