Description	:	Emery Lawrence Barclay, 100, a lifelong resident of Boone County, passed from this life on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 22, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid. Emery was born on November 4, 1909 in Garden Township, Boone County, Iowa to Angus and Emma (Pies) Barclay. He married Olive Stenson on April 11, 1933 at the Garden Prairie Parsonage and their marriage was blessed with three children, Evelyn, Alvin and Lee. They made their home in Madrid. Mrs. Barclay preceded him in death on July 3, 1992. Emery was formerly employed as a mechanic/heavy equipment operator with Boone County for more than 30 years, retiring in November of 1971. He was also a farmer for many years. Emery was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Madrid. He enjoyed listening to Big Band Music and watching Lawrence Welk and Guy Lombardo. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons, Alvin (Nancy) Barclay of Woodward and Lee (Crystal) Barclay of Madrid; three grandchildren, Cathy (Jim) Uthe of Panora, IA, Carol (Ryan) Thornburg of Madrid and Joni (Brian) McCarthy of Woodward; two step grandchildren, Danielle Crannell of Madrid and Dusty Crannell of Rives, TN; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, Emery was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Evelyn Carpenter; two sisters, Leona Nutt and Viola Ackerlund; and one granddaughter, Julie Dyslin. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Free Church; 2243 S. Avenue; Madrid, Iowa 50156.
