He attended rural School District 22 and then farmed. In 1945, he was inducted into the United States Army and served in the Signal Corps in the Phillipines. He returned to the Dodge area and on January 6, 1953, married Elsie Schueth at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tabor. They lived and farmed southwest of Dodge until moving to Schuyler in 1989. In 2010, Emil moved to Dodge to live at the Parkview Home. During his lifetime, in addition to farming, Emil was also involved in radio and TV repair, welding,photography, grafting trees, making wine, beekeeping and was an all around "Mr. Fix It". Many will remember the repairman in the red van. If parts for repairs were not available, Emil would make what he needed. He was always very curious and spent his spare time reading World Book encyclopedias. He became a Ham Radio operator . Emil and Elsie enjoyed traveling and people liked his great storytelling ability. Emil was very proud of his Czech heritage and was fluent in speaking, as well as reading Czech. A self-taught musician, he played mandolin, keyboard, button accordian and violin. Many of his happiest moments were playing with fellow button accordion musicians around the area. He is survived by two children; Margie (Steve) Heinemeyer of Omaha and Rodney (Teri) Dostal of Dodge, three grandchildren; Susan (Randy) Muhsman of Schuyler, Charles (Jacki) Dostal of Dodge and David Heinemeyer of Omaha, and two great grandchildren; Ryan and Kendra Muhsman of Schuyler. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his parents, sister, Sophie Vavra; wife, Elsie in 2007; and grandson, Matthew Heinemeyer in 2013.
