Westphal, age 83, of Onslow, died Sunday, December 26 at Community Hospital at Anamosa after a long illness. Funeral services were Wednesday, December 29, at 11 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming with burial in Wyoming Cemetery. Rev. David Guetzke officiated. Westphal, age 83, of Onslow, died Sunday, December 26 at Community Hospital at Anamosa after a long illness. Funeral services were Wednesday, December 29, at 11 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming with burial in Wyoming Cemetery. Rev. David Guetzke officiated. Casket bearers were Peter Westphal, Duane Westphal, Richard Eggers, Thomas Gutzeit, Russel Streeper and Gene Denniston. Emily was born July 15,1910 near Preston, the daughter of Charles and Dorothea Kunze Eggers and received her education at Wyoming, where she graduated from high school in 1928. On February 23, 1929 Emily married Herbert Westphal at Anamosa. The couple began farming near Wyoming. In 1943 they moved to a farm near Onslow where they farmed until Herberts' death in 1978. Emily continued to live near Onslow until her death. She was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church at Wyoming and was an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the church Sarah Circle where she enjoyed activities of quilting and soap making. She was also a long time member of the Onslow Altrurian Club and enjoyed making ceramics. She is survived by two sons, Loyd and his wife Arnita of Onslow, and Richard and his wife Elaine of Waterloo, two daughters, Nancy Chaplin of Louisville, Kentucky, and Carol Streeper and her husband Robert of Marion, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, seven grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,husband, two brothers, and two sisters.
