Pallbearers were grandnephews, Duane McFarland and Karl Loeschke of Milbank; Lewis Lundgren of Odessa, Minn.: Robert Noll, of Big Stone City, and Ralph and Harry Redfield of Deer Creek, Minn. Mrs. Redfield was born at Wabasha, Minn., on October 10, 1878. She was the youngest child of the late John and Anna Saueressig. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, Robert and Hugo, her sisters, Mrs. Joseph Noll, Mrs. Jeremiah McFarland, and Mrs. James Selby. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Lee Redfield, a daughter, Esther, and a grandson, James Redfield, all of Big Stone City. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lena Saueressig, of McClusky, N. Dakota, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Before Mrs. Redfield was two years old she came to Dakota territory with her parents. They traveled to the end of the railroad, which was in Ortonville in an emigrant railroad car. The family settled in Alban township about 12 miles south of Big Stone City. She remained in this locality and in Big Stone City for most of her life. She received her education at home and later in the rural school which her father had helped to build. After completing grade school and spending a short time in high school she taught several terms of school in South Dakota and in Minnesota. On February 11, 1899, she united in marriage to Myron Redfield. They lived for a short time in Minnesota and then returned to South Dakota. Mr Redfield passed away in 1938 at his home in Big Stone City. Mrs. Redfield continued to reside in Big Stone City until her death and enjoyed the companionship of her daughter, Esther, who made her home with her. Mrs Redfield was noted for her colorful accounts of early day history. She had a vivid memory of life of homesteading days in Grant county and often entertained friends and relatives with stories of the events of those days. She was also noted for her hobbies, including flower gardening, knitting and quilting. For a number of years she gave instruction to classes and individuals in knitting. Hospitable and friendly, Mrs. Redfield enjoyed the esteem and affection of a wide circle of friends. Relatives from a distance attending the rites were Mrs. Lena Saueressig, McClusky, N. Dak.; Alfred Saueressig, Bismarck, N. Dak.; Mr and Mrs. Edward Rother, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rother, and Mrs. Elizabeth Rother, all of Plainview, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Kingsley Redfield, Mrs David Anderson, and Dale Cushman, of Minneapolis; Mr and Mrs. Courtland Redfield, Harry and Ralph, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Zaske, all of Deer Creek, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Noll, Byron and Dennis Cushman, of Montevideo, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Madden, Benson, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Noll of Escondido, Calif,; Roland Noll and David, of Vermillion, and Mr. and Mrs. David McFarland, of Moorhead, Minn. Other relatives and friends attended from Appleton, Odessa, Correll, Milbank, and Big Stone City. Most of the memorials for Mrs. Redfield have been given to a special Memorial Fund for the Greenwood Cemetery in which she was laid to rest. Grant County Review, Thursday, July 25, 1963
