Description	:	By Anne Stanton Sims Emily Roper Parmer was born May 24, 1836 in Greenville, Ala. to Joseph Milton Parmer and Catherine Amanda Roper. Her family was some of the first settlers to the area following the end of the War of 1812 and after the native American population ceased the uprisings. Her daddy's daddy, Ephraim Parmer [also known as Ephraim Palmer] was one of those first settlers. According to the book, The History of Butler County, Ala., first printed in 1885, "Previous to 1819, the present site of Greenville was a favorite resort for wild deer, hundreds of them often... Her family was some of the first settlers to the area following the end of the War of 1812 and after the native American population ceased the uprisings. Her daddy's daddy, Ephraim Parmer [also known as Ephraim Palmer] was one of those first settlers. According to the book, The History of Butler County, Ala., first printed in 1885, "Previous to 1819, the present site of Greenville was a favorite resort for wild deer, hundreds of them often being seen at one time feeding upon the luxuriant growth of grass which covered her verdant hills, or lying down resting themselves in the cool and refreshing shade of the cane thickets that hid the mossy banks of the crystal streams from the face of the bright luminary day. On the evening of the 14th of January, 1819, the peace of this happy forest oaks was disturbed by a train of emigrants, who had come from the State of South Carolina to the new country in search of future homes." The first settlers "brought with them 52 horses and 12 wagons loaded with bedding, clothing, cooking utensils, all kinds of food and and assortment of tools used in mechanical work." "A few weeks after the first batch of emigrants had pitched their tents here, Ephraim Palmer [Parmer]... and others came from the older States and cast their lots with their friends in this locality.... Ephraim Palmer [Parmer erected the first log cabin in the immediate vicinity of Greenville." Emily died Oct. 13, 1919, probably in Century, Escambia, Fla., where she lived with her son Joseph Parmer Harrison and his family. She is buried in the Harrison family plot in Ray's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Bogia, Escambia, Co., Fla.
