Emily and Francis did not make each move alone: they moved in cohort with Emily's parents and siblings, as well as other families such as the Bemiss family. Emily named each of her children after her siblings. An 1875 landowner map of Bremer County, Iowa shows Emily living near her brothers Charles Rowe and Albert Rowe just north of Sumner.
