She grew up in McKenney and graduated with honors from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She earned her master's degree in library science from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Zehmer retired in 2004 from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. where she worked 30 years. She was a lifelong member of the St. Monica & St. James Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, John G. Zehmer, Sr. & Emily Butterworth Zehmer. Survivors include two brothers, John G. Zehmer, Jr. and his wife, Frances Nimitz Zehmer & Dr. Rynoldson B. Zehmer and his wife, Nancy Hard Zehmer; nephews, Reynoldson B. Zehmer, Jr., John G. Zehmer III, James D.W. Zehmer, Lewis Hardy Zehmer; niece, Mary Campbell Zehmer Akers; great-nephew, David E. Akers, Jr. From the Washington Post, Washington, D.C. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009.
