Emma's father, William, was married for the second time to Rebecca Blanchard, the sister of Emma's second husband, William Blanchard. This would now make Rebecca (Blanchard) Wood, Emma's step-mother AND sister-in-law! The 1930 Census has Emma living with her son Arthur Benson Weiss Horton in Providence, Rhode Island within blocks of her grandchildren. I hope they were able to visit often. In the 1940 Census Emma is 83 years old living with her sister Susan (Wood) Grant in Warwick, Rhode Island. Emma outlived all of her 13 children. Both her son Arthur and daughter Clara died in March of 1942, and her sister Susan Grant died in May 1942. Quite a blow for Emma, losing her last two surviving children and her sister all in a span of just three months. Emma lived with her granddaughter, Mrs. Nancy Jordan, for 6 years in West Warwick. She spent the last 4 years of her life in the Eleanor Slater Hospital and died at the age of 93. OBITUARY Emma A. Horton Dies in 94th Year Mrs. Emma A. Horton died yesterday afternoon. She was a resident of 77 Main Street, Fiskville. She makes her home with a granddaughter, Mrs. Leon F. Jordan for 6 years and previously was a longtime resident of South Providence. Widow of the late George N. Horton who died in June 1915. The deceased was born June 29, 1856 in Providence, daughter of the late William G. and Sarah (Cornell) Wood. Besides her granddaughter, she is survived by a son, Arthur B. W. Horton of Providence, a half sister, Mrs. Charlotte A. Spencer of Anthony, and several other grandchildren. The body was taken to the Frank R. Gorton & Sons Funeral Home, Anthony. Funeral services will be held there Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Robert Cadeckar, pastor of Quidnick Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Grace Church Cemetery, Providence.
