Death was due to complications attributed to old age and was preceded by two months of illness in Sartori Memorial hospital, Cedar Falls, before her transfer to the Rest Home Aug. 21. Emma Augusta Maldzahn was born the oldest child of John and Christina Maldzahn, Jan. 24, 1870 at Gilbertville. At the age of six years she moved to Winslow with her parents and resided there until coming to the La Porte City vicinity to work when she was 14 years old. On Dec. 15, 1887, she was married to George Clark of Spring Creek township and they moved to La Porte City in 1906. Following Mr. Clark’s death Aug. 21, 1911, she married Charles C. Hahn of Hot Springs, Nebr. on Oct. 29, 1912. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1941. Her survivors include three brothers, William Maldzahn, Cedar Falls; John Maldzahn, Erwin, S. Dak., and Charles Maldzahn, Waverly and five nieces and nephews. Three sisters preceded her in death. She had been a member of the Methodist church since 1911 and was faithful in church attendance and active in the service of the Women’s Society of Christian Service as long as her health permitted. Funeral services were held at the Johannsen Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. G.D. Gaide of Shell Rock, formerly of First Methodist church, La Porte City, officiating and Mrs. Cliff Burr playing organ selections. Casket bearers were Tom Elliott, R.H. Haberichter, Edwin Hoppe, Jesse O. Kober, Roy E. Ashley and Henry Kruse.. Burial was made in the family lot in West View cemetery
