She was married to Ferdinand Geottle, April 12, 1877, and came to Lansing, Iowa, the same year. From there they moved to Waukon, Allamakee County, where they lived fourteen years. From there they moved to Elma four years ago and thence to McIntire two years ago, Mr. Geottle having proceeded his family nearly a year. Ten children were born unto them. Two lie in the cemetery at Waukon and eight still live to cherish the memory of a loving, devoted mother. The eldest, Samuel Geottle, is married and living in Elma; Gustave living in Chicago and working in the stockyards; and John working at Elma. Elsie, Arthur, Otto, Clara and Freddie all live in their home in this place. Mrs. Geottle was a member of the M. E. church for several years at Waukon, but had attended services at the Baptist church here. Her last illness was very brief and so uncomplaining was she that none realized how feeble she was before then. Kind, patient, devoted to her home and loved ones, she will be greatly missed. The deep sympathy of the neighbors and friends of the entire community is extended to the mourning husband and children in this sad and sudden affliction. May the God she trusted comfort and console as no human power can. She entered into rest Tuesday, November 28, 1899, at 10 o'clock in the evening. The funeral took place at 3 o'clock, at the Baptist church, Thursday, November 30, 1899, and was conducted by Rev. S. C. Enos. ------------------ A Waukon newspaper also notes Emma's passing in a December issue and mistakenly states that she is a sister of William Gettle [sic]. It offers no additional siblings nor mention of her Mother.
