EMMA BEARD AGED RESIDENT DIES SATURDAY Highly Respected Woman Is Summoned After an Illness Of Six Weeks —Burial Tuesday Mrs. Emma Belle Beard, a resident of Nebraska for 75 years, passed away Saturday after several weeks illness with mastoid complications. Mrs. Beard was taken ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Otto in Denver, while enroute to California where she had expected to spend the winter. She returned to Aurora shortly before Christmas and entered the hospital for treatment. She bore weeks of severe suffering with fortitude. Impressive final rites, conducted at the Chapman-Higby Chapel on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, were attended by many friends of the deceased. The beautiful floral tribute manifested the esteem in which Mrs, Beard was held. Rev. James B. Brown, pastor of the Federated church, officiated at the service. He spoke of the Christian faith of Mrs Beard and of her devotion to the church and her regularity in attendance at all services when her health would permit. Mrs. Fred Stevens, accompanied by Effie Swanson at the organ, sang "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go" and "Sweet Be Thy Rest". Emma Belle Hagadorn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hagadorn, was bom in Ohio on August 31, 1857, and came with her parents to Richardson County, Nebraska, in 1862, at the age of 5 years. She was a graduate of Humboldt College, and later was principal of Nemaha High School. On July 3, 1881 she was united in marriage to John M. Beard in Brownville, Nebraska. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy. The family moved to Aurora in 1869, residing here continuously since that time with the exception of a short time spent in Palme r and Lincoln. Mrs. Beard wa s a member of the Congregational church and after its consolidation, wa s a faithful member of the Federated church and the Housekeepers Class. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years and a past Worthy Matron. Mrs. Beard passed away at the Aurora hospital on Saturday, January 30, 1937, at the age of 79 years, 6 months. Her husband preceded her in death five years ago. Surviving are three sons, Ed Beard of Aurora, J. G. Beard of Oklahoma City, C. M. Beard of Omaha ; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hochstetler of Bayard, Nebraska. Mrs. Emma Newman of Aurora, Mrs. Ellen Otto of Denver, Colo, and fourteen grandchildren and a host of friends. Out-of-town relatives and friends in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Beard of Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Beard and son Jack of Omaha, Mrs. Otto Hochstetler and daughters, Phyllis and Dorothy of Bayard, Mrs. Ralph Otto of Denver, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Lornax of Broken Bow, Mrs. Sarah McGregor of Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Riggs of Central City and Mrs. Adelia Russell of Nemaha . —The Aurora News, dated Friday February 5, 1937.
