Emma was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Snow Township near Garrison, to Daniel and Whilhelmina (Horning) Boger. She was raised on a farm and attended country school. At the age of 22, she left home to work for Dr. Ed and Dr. Anges Stucke in Garrison as a housekeeper and cook. On June 10, 1940, she married Arnold E. Halquist in Bismarck. They purchased a farm approximately two miles west of Garrison where they lived and worked until 1971 when they built a new house in the city of Garrison. At this time, Emma went to work for three years at Garrison Memorial Hospital in the dietary department. Emma enjoyed gardening and especially flowers. She continued to garden through the summer of 2009. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and was a master of it. She also crocheted and embroidered throughout her life. In her younger years, she was active in Peace Lutheran Church Dorcas Society and Lutheran Womens Missionary League holding the office of secretary/treasurer for several years. Emma was the oldest of 11 children and they and their families were always a very important part of her life. The light of her life was her only grandson, Jonathon Michael Heidt, of whom she was so proud. Emma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherryl and Rick Heidt, Bismarck; her grandson, Jonathon Michael Heidt, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada; seven brothers, Fred (Gertrude) Boger, Turtle Lake, Edwin (Shirley) Boger, Bismarck, William (Beverly) Boger, Garrison, Alvin (Doris) Boger, Garrison, Leo (Catherine) Boger, Stanley, Rueben (Dorothy) Boger, Underwood, and John (Jean) Boger, Acampo, California; two sisters, Marlene (Jerome) Bauer, Coleharbor, and Ruby Boger, Garrison; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold in 2002; and her brother, Elmer in 2001.
