She died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of one-hundred-five. Emma was born in Soldier Township near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ in April of 1897 in Soldier Township by Rev. Wehking and was confirmed on April 11, 1911 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Freese. She died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of one-hundred-five. Emma was born in Soldier Township near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ in April of 1897 in Soldier Township by Rev. Wehking and was confirmed on April 11, 1911 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Freese. Emma received her education at a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she assisted in the the family home. On May 2, 1917, Emma was united in marriage to Nicholas Ohl at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Freese. The couple farmed near Dunlap and Charter Oak areas and were blessed with the birth of four children. They moved to Dunlap on November 6, 1965. During Emma's life time she was a seamstress, designing clothes for herself and her family. Emma was a devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and their Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, especially making aprons for family members and friends. She also enjoyed playing Pitch and Euchre. In her younger years, Emma enjoyed attending house and barn dances. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1966, three brothers, Herbert, Walter and Raymond and two sisters, Anna and Lillian. Survivors include two daughters, Leona Naslund of Denison; Evelyn McMinemee and her husband, Wayne of Denison; two sons, Maynard Ohl and his wife, Adlyn of Dow City; Ferris Ohl and his wife, Fern of Hinton; twenty grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Emma's favorite verse. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2003 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Buchholz and Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the services and grave side rites held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Sherry Ketelsen served as organist accompaniment for soloists Julie and Emmie Wood as they sang, "The Best Is Yet To Come"; Jodi and Katlyn Weinkauf as they sang, "This Is The Day The Lord Hath Made" and congregational hymns, "Just As I Am Without One Plea", "Be Still My Soul" and "Abide With Me". All grandchildren sang, "On Eagle's Wings". All grandchildren, nieces and nephews were honorary pallbearers; granddaughters were casket bearers and serving as pallbearers were Michael McMinemee, Dennis Ohl, Ryan Ohl, Bill Lahr, Maynard Ohl, Jr., Randy Ohl, Mark Ohl and Jeff Lahr.
