Birchenough, of St. Paul's Episcopal church. Messars R. L. Kan, Wm. L. Guppy, Thos. Newby, G. K. Swill and W. E. Cooper were pall bearers. Emma E. Ufford was born in Oneida county, New York, Jan. 20, 1848, and passed away at Pender, Nebr, April 1, 1928, aged 80 years, 2 months, and 12 days. When a young girl she came with her parents to Bureau county, Illinois, remaining there one year, and then moving to Iowa, which was to be her home the greater part of her life. On Dec. 24, 1870, she was married to Alvin H. Wick. To this union was born nine children, William W., Stoddard S., Fannie (deceased), wife of J. E. Roundy, Augustus L., Jennie E., who died while a young girl, Alvin H. Jr., Grace M., Charles M., and Pearl E., wife of John G. Meyer. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Wick located on a farm in Hardin county, Iowa. In the spring of 1874 they came to Shelby county, locating on a farm near Harlan where they lived for eight years, moving then to Harlan which remained the family home for many years. Dec., 1910 they moved to Omaha, Nebr., where the husband and father passed away Feb. 12, 1919. In 1924 Mrs Wick moved to Pender, where her two sons, W. and A. H. Jr. and a daughter, Pearl, also located, and except for occasional visits to relatives and friends she spent the closing years of her life at Pender, keeping up her own home until three years ago. Since then she has spent several months at the home of her son, S. S., at Bigelow, Minn, and with another son, A. H. at Pender, and many months at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John. G. Meyer, at whose home she passed away. Through the many years of her long and active life, no sacrifice was too great, no labor too difficult for her In the Interest of her loved ones. A kind neighbor, a faithful wife, and a loyal and devoted mother has passed on.
