She was born June 16, 1906 in Kearney, NE, to Ardle and Luella McMahon. Read More	Another angel watches over us tonight. Emma Frances (McMahon) Duncan, longtime resident of Leavenworth, entered the loving arms of Jesus on Oct. 11, 2002, at Cashmere Convalescent Center. She was born June 16, 1906 in Kearney, NE, to Ardle and Luella McMahon. Her family, including five brothers and one sister farmed for a short time in Pleasanton, NE, then moved on to Sandpoint, ID and Grants Pass, OR, where her father was a logger. They settled in Leavenworth in 1922. Emma met Everett Bert Duncan ("E.B.") during a dance at the Cougar Inn at Lake Wenatchee. Their courtship lasted on and off until they were married on Jan. 10, 1925. They lived with Bert's parents in Leavenworth where they assisted with the family apple and pear orchard. After the birth of their four children, the family lived on the Duncan homestead near Lake Wenatchee on the White River between 1940 and 1943. They returned to Leavenworth and ran the orchard that Bert had by then inherited from his father. Emma and Bert both worked for many long years at Leavenworth Fruit Co. She was the packing supervisor before retiring in the late 1960s. Besides raising and loving their own family, Emma and Bert found room in their hearts to take in and help care for other children within their extended families. Emma was given the nickname "Mommy Em" by her nephew, Terry McMahon, and the name stuck. She's been Mommy Em to many others since. Emma was more than a grandmother, mother and friend. She was a loving soul who always had an available ear to listen and counsel, and a true heart of gold. Emma was a member of the Leavenworth Eastern Star, and the Leavenworth Methodist Church. She was also part creator and owner of "Mountain Home Ceramics," run by her daughter Joyce during the 1970s. Emma is survived by two sons, Jack Duncan and wife Pat of Chehalis, and Bob Duncan and his wife Jody of Leavenworth; two daughters, Joyce Johnson and her husband Earl of Leavenworth, and Kathy (Kinney) Dodge and husband Warren of Tacoma; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild expected in February; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Betty Darlington; five brothers, Bob, Martin, Joseph, John and William McMahon; one sister, Irene Anderson; and her parents. "You're in our hearts Mom, Grandma. You'll be loved there forever and never forgotten." Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Leavenworth Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ward's Funeral Chapel.
