Emma Frances daughter of William and Sarah Seal was born near Cambridge, Iowa Jan. 21, 1861 and died at the home of her son Ralph Webb at Oelwein, Iowa at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 20, 1932. She lacked only one day of being 71 years old at the time of her death. She was the second child in a family of nine children. Four members of her family have preceded her in death. They are Moses and Charles Seal and Mrs. Tim Keefe formerly of Nevada and Mrs. Theodore Purvis who died in South Dakota. In 1880 she united in marriage with Milton Patrick Webb. To this union two sons were born Cecil D. of Ames and Ralph C. of Oelwein. Besides her two sons she raised a nephew Fay Purvis, who came to live with her at the age of three. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Webb lived for a short time in Sheldahl where Mr. Webb practiced his profession the law. Later the family moved to Slater where they continued to live until he was elected county attorney of Story county. The family removed to Nevada in 1891. Mr. Webb served two terms as county attorney and died here Sept. 18, 1898. After the death of her husband Mrs. Webb made Nevada her home until her death. Mrs. Webb always lived an active life. About ten weeks ago she suffered a stroke. Nine days before her death she went to Oelwein to spend some time in the home of her son. On Tuesday evening at the supper she had another stroke from which she never rallied. When she was a girl she united with the Methodist Episcopal church. She was always active devoted to and interested in her church. When the family came to Nevada in 1891 she had her membership transferred to the Methodist church here. She was a member of chapter 296 O. E. S. and charter member of the Rebekah lodge. She leaves to mourn their loss besides her two sons and their wives, four grandchildren Arlene Frances, Alice Laon and Margaret Isabel Webb of Oelwein and Harold Milton Webb of Ames. A grandson Carroll Webb died Sept. 18, 1918. Also one brother, Joseph Seal of St. James, Minn., and three sisters Mrs. W. B. Hoskins of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Cora Pace of Des Moines and Mrs. John Dorsey of Santa Barbara, Calif. as well as many other relatives. A niece Mrs. Muriel Garriety a trained nurse of Chicago, spent several weeks with her during her last illness. All was done for her that was humanly possible. She leaves besides her relatives, not merely a large circle of acquaintances but a very large circle of friends made during her active busy and useful life. All who knew her will cherish her memory.
