Emma was born on October 22, 1952 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to Myles Manning Atherton, Jr. and Carolyn Tozier Atherton. Read More	Emma Atherton Murphy, 62, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, passed away on August 31, 2015 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. Emma was born on October 22, 1952 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to Myles Manning Atherton, Jr. and Carolyn Tozier Atherton. She graduated from Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, New York in 1970, and attended the University of Southern Maine where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Emma received a BS in Accounting from Bentley College in Massachusetts in 1986, and an MBA from New Hampshire College in 1996. She was a credit union manager from 1977 to 2003, the last 16 of these years at Avco-Mass (now Touchstone) Federal Credit Union, and belonged to the Credit Union Executives Society. Emma was diagnosed with Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) in 1990 and was very active in the support network for fellow LAM patients. She received the LAM Leader Award from the LAM Foundation in 2014. Emma was also active at First Baptist Church of Methuen, Mass., serving on its Caring Committee, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Board of Deacons and as Treasurer. Emma was married to David M. Murphy, Sr. from 1974 until his death in 1998. She is survived by her sister Ann Atherton Poulin and husband Michael Poulin of Houston, Texas, her brother Mark Atherton and wife Linda Atherton of Cleveland, Ohio, her nieces and nephews Taylor Poulin, Katelyn Atherton, Libby Poulin, Blake Atherton, and Graham Atherton, her step-children Wayne Murphy, Cheryl Lombard, Rhonda Lamb, and Mary Rita Reinhard, and her friend and companion James Raymond. Emma is predeceased by her parents, M. Manning and Carolyn T. Atherton, her husband David Murphy, Sr., and her step-son David Murphy, Jr. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 30 Park Street, Methuen, Mass.
