July 3, 1929 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Henry Doty died at her home suddenly Thursday evening, June 27, 1929, at 11 o'clock, when sitting on the front porch of her residence talking to her husband. Her daughter, Mrs. Frank Emmons, after enjoying the evening with her, had scarcely reached home when the telephone rang, and she was requested by her father to come back immediately, as something had happened to her mother. Mrs. Emmons returned, and found her mother dead. Mrs. Doty was stricken with a heart attack and died instantly. Word of her sudden passing was scarcely believable to her many friends and acquaintances when it became known about town the following morning. Mrs. Doty was an energetic, ambitious woman, who had never complained of an ailment. She conducted a large rooming house in a capable manner, and found time for many diversions as well. Always cheerful and in good spirits, she made many friends, who liked and admired her for her pleasantries and ambition. She had taken her small granddaughter, Frances Waters, under her care, and was giving her marked devotion and careful training. Mrs. Doty, as Emma Dooly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Dooly, was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, July 30, 1864. She was one of four children, all but one, Mrs. Rose Ryder, having preceded her in death. She was married to O.W. Waters in 1881. Three children were born to them, Mrs. Frank Emmons of Carroll, and two sons, Bert, who passed away July 11, 1922, and Arlo who died October 11, 1925. Mr. Waters died September 2, 1895. In 1900 she was married to Henry Doty. Mrs. Doty had been a resident of Carroll and Carroll county for many years. She was a member of the Baptist church, which she joined at an early age, and of the W.C.T.U. Surviving are her husband, Henry Doty, her daughter, Mrs. Frank Emmons, and her sister, Mrs. Rose Ryder of Clinton, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H.C. Schneider, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city, and burial was made in the city cemetery. Mrs. Ryder, of Clinton, attended the funeral.
