Description	:	Emma Jane McKnabb, daughter of Washington and Catherine Hopkins, was born in Johnson county, Iowa, August 31, 1871 and departed this life at her home in Shelby, Iowa, March 1, 1951 at the age of 79 years and 6 months. Her girlhood was spent in Atlantic and Audubon, Iowa. When 17 years of age, she moved with her parents to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Her girlhood was spent in Atlantic and Audubon, Iowa. When 17 years of age, she moved with her parents to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The following year she attended Normal school at Woodbine, Iowa and later taught Pioneer school three miles west of Tennant. On December 26, 1900, she was united to marriage to Orley C. McKnabb at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. To this union were born five children, one daughter, Ruth Catherine, preceded her in death. Most of their married life has been spent in Shelby county, near Tennant and at Shelby. When 18 years of age, Mrs McKnabb was converted and united with the Eureka Springs Baptist church, and when they returned to Iowa she brought her membership to the Tennant Methodist church and then to the Shelby church. This couple lived to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, December 26, 1950, when their children and many friends gathered at the Shelby Methodist church for the day. The occasion was a great joy to Mrs McKnabb, as she had been in failing health for some time. Being a pioneer mother, she had a part in the many changes which had come to Western Iowa these past fifty years. At every call her Pastor made, she inquired about the activities of her Church and friends, as she was always interested in the best things of life. She is survived by her husband, O.C. McKnabb; two daughters, Pearl (Cecil) Truitt of Arlon and Edith (John E.) Mulligan of Manilla, two sons George of Harlan and Clarence of Shelby; fifteen grandchildren and one sister, Margaret Woodhouse of Eyota, Minnesota. Funeral services were held in the Shelby Methodist church Saturday, March 3, with W.W. Watson, the Pastor, in charge. Interment was in the Shelby cemetery.
