MO Death certificate (15106) indicates that Emma J. Leatherman, the daughter of Nathan Riggs of Newkirk (mother unknown), was born in Kansas on June 25, 1862 and died April 8, 1911. They died in 1973 within two months of each other. Her life ended tragically when she committed suicide at their home in Versailles early in the morning at 1:15 a.m. on April 8, 1911. She had lived 48 years, 9 months, & 13 days. --- "Leatherman Rites Today Oral Leatherman, 84, Versailles, died Saturday at Bothwell Memorial Hospital,Sedalia. Mr. Leatherman was born Feb. 10, 1888, at Versailles, the son of the late Franklin and Emma Leatherman. On Sept. 3, 1916, he married Miss Gussie Staples who survives at the home. He was a retired insurance and real estate man in Versailles and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Versailles. Other survivors include: A son, the Rev. Leon Leatherman, Orland Park, Ill.; a brother, Ray Leatherman, Jansas City; and a granddaughter. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles with the Rev. Frank Ebright officiating. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery." Daily Capital News Tuesday, January 23, 1973 Jefferson City, MO Roy, died almost two months later. "Leatherman Rites Thursday Roy F. Leatherman, 81, of Kansas City, died Tuesday at a hospital there. He was a former resident of Versailles. Mr. Leatherman was born Sept. 8, 1891, in Morgan County, the son of Franklin and Emma Jane Riggs Leatherman. He was married April 5, 1916, to the former Miss Eliza Bridges who survives. Mr. Leatherman was a member of Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No 320, Versailles. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church.. Other survivors include: One son, Roy Leatherman, Jr., and one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Lee Long, both of Kansas City; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m, Thursday, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles, with the Rev. Frank Ebright officiating. Burial will be at versailles Cemetery."
