Description	:	George and Emma were married Jan 1, 1880 in Dubuque, Iowa. They came to Alberta around 1902, were they had several farms, raising Percheron horses, Shorthorn cattle and sheep. In the earlier years in this district Mrs. Root was one of those women who took an active and intelligent part in furthering the interests of her husband and the community generally. Married to Mr. Root in Iowa in the early '80's, she came to this district with him in 1902 and they took the Spruce Bluff farm now occupied by Mr. James Cruickshank. They brought in some splendid Percheron horses from Iowa, and they were always active in promoting the interests of the stockmen. Shortly after their arrival, Mr. and Mrs. Root formed the Central Alberta Stockgrowers Association to carry on this work. From 1905 to 1909 they lived on a ranch at Erskine, and in the latter year they returned to Red Deer for a few months before selling their farm in 1910. They went from here to Water Glen and from there to Wetaskiwin where they made their home until after Mr. Root's death in 1934.
