Description	:	Emma Simonson was born September 12, 1902 in Canoe Township, the sixth child and third daughter of George and Anna (Blein) Johnson. She was baptized at Hauge Lutheran Church on October 3, 1902 and confirmed there on November 11, 1917. She attended rural school in Canoe Township. On July 28, 1923 Emma married Alfred Simonson in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Early in their marriage Emma and Alfred moved to Austin, Minnesota where Alfred worked in the Hormel meat processing plant. Read More	Emma Simonson was born September 12, 1902 in Canoe Township, the sixth child and third daughter of George and Anna (Blein) Johnson. She was baptized at Hauge Lutheran Church on October 3, 1902 and confirmed there on November 11, 1917. She attended rural school in Canoe Township. On July 28, 1923 Emma married Alfred Simonson in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Early in their marriage Emma and Alfred moved to Austin, Minnesota where Alfred worked in the Hormel meat processing plant. Two daughters, Ardeth and Lois, were born to the young couple while they were in Austin. After ten years they moved back to Winneshiek County to farm, living on a number of places in Canoe and Bluffton townships before settling on a farm in Pleasant Township southeast of Locust. Their youngest daughter, Delores, was born in 1939 while they were still members of Hauge. After they moved to Pleasant Township they joined St. John's here in Locust. Emma suffered two terrible tragedies in close succession when Alfred died in a farm accident on November 27, 1959 and Delores died in a car accident less than a year later on September 20, 1960. Shortly thereafter, Emma moved to a little house close to downtown Decorah which she rented for the next 30 years. For several years she worked at the County Home. After taking a tailoring course, she supplemented her income by taking altering work from one of the clothing stores as well as from friends and neighbors she also sewed drapes for Goetches in Decorah. Emma was active in the Locust Ladies Aid and the Hannah Circle right up to the time her health failed in 1992. After suffering from congestive heart failure Emma moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon where she lived until her death on Sunday, October 2nd. Emma is survived by her daughter Ardeth and son-in-law Milton Iverson of Dorchester, Iowa; sister Amanda Thomann of Cresco, Iowa, 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred, her daughter Delores, her daughter Lois and son-in-law Charles Flatland, and three brothers and sisters.
