In 1910 she and Henry lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, on Fourth Avenue near Second Street in Coon Rapids. He worked as a machinist in a machine shop. In 1920 the two of them lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, in Coon Rapids. Henry worked as a blacksmith in his own shop. His son Charles and family lived next door. In 1930 she and her husband lived in a house they owned at 403 State Street in Coon Rapids. Their home was valued at $5000, and they did not have a radio. Henry worked as a blacksmith in a shop and she as a maid, doing housework. In 1940 she lived with her daughter Hazel and her husband on a farm they were renting for ten dollars a month in Union Township, Carroll County, IA. ------- Coon Rapids Enterprise, November 28, 1952: Emma Lou Wallace was born Dec. 29, 1863, on a farm near Calamus, Iowa, to Rev. D. C. and Marie Alger Curtis. She passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Storony after being bed-fast for a period of 10 weeks at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 18 days. As a young girl, she lived with her grandfather, Lyman Alger who reared her to young womanhood. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the Baptist Church. In her early years, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Cushman. To this union three children were born: Dorian, Maude (Mrs. John Gottche), and Hazel (Mrs. Harry Payne). She was preceded in death by her two daughters and one grandson Ralph Payne. She came to Coon Rapids in 1883 and lived in this community the rest of her life. She married Henry Wallace who also preceded her in death. She united with the Christian Church in November of 1942 and was active in her relationship until the time of her death. She leaves in passing one son, Dorian of Rockford, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Laura Figley of Calamus, a brother, Charles of Venice, California: 7 grand children and 7 great grandchildren; as well as host of friends and neighbors. Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Cushman, Mr and Mrs. Robert Cushman, Mr and Mrs. Dale Grubbs, and Mrs. Richard Carey of Rockford, Illinois; Mr and Mrs. John Cushman and Chester Cushman of Alpha, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Figley of Lawton; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Figley, Cedar Rapids; Laura Figley, Calamus; and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Durbin of Gilmore City.
