Description	:	Mrs. Emma Louise Rickels, the widow of the late John H. Rickels, died last Sunday evening at 8:30 o’clock, at John McDonald hospital. She had been ill wiith influenza for a week, and had been taken to the hospital last Saturday. The direct cause of her death was heart trouble. The direct cause of her death was heart trouble. Emma Louise Pause was born March 16, 1864, in Wayne township, and was therefore 62 years old at the time of her death. She was the oldest child of Ludwig and Agnes Barbara (Scheer) Pause. A month after her birth she was baptized in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church, and at the age of 16 years was confirmed in the same faith. Throughout her life she was active in the Lutheran church. She was united in marriage to John Henry Rickels of Wayne township February 17, 1885, and they made their home on a farm near Langworthy where they lived for a few years. They removed to Monticello, and after spending two years here, went back on a farm. In 1906 they again remove to Monticello, and operated a restaurant. Mr. Rickels died February 10, 1917. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Rickels continued to manage the restaurant, assisted by her daughter Louise and son George. Mr. and Mrs. Rickels became the parents of nine children, all of whom survive their mother: Louise, George, Mrs. James Connolly and Lawrence, of Monticello; Gerhard of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. John Tschantz of Lovell township; Ludwig of Florida; John of Decorah, and William, who is a patient in the Presbyterian Hospital at Albuquerque, New Mexico. All of her children with the exception of William were able to attend the funeral. Four of her sons serve in the United States army during the World war. In addition to her children, Mrs. Rickels is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Bray and Mrs. Clara Berger, and two brothers, Adam, of Lowden, and Carl Pause of Parma, Idaho. She also leaves five grandchildren. Short services were held this afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home of Mrs. James Connolly, after which Rev. S.M. Ide, pastor of the church.
