Description	:	Emma M. Birger Besmer was born October 5, 1920, at Winner, SD, the 4th of 8 children born to the family of John and Mary (Vnoucek) Birger. She grew up and completed the 8th grade at Winner and then did housework and baby sitting at homes in the local area. She was married to Harry Besmer on October 19, 1942 in Jamison, NE, They made their first home in the Jamison area for several years where their two children - Jim and Kathy_ were born. Birger Besmer was born October 5, 1920, at Winner, SD, the 4th of 8 children born to the family of John and Mary (Vnoucek) Birger. She grew up and completed the 8th grade at Winner and then did housework and baby sitting at homes in the local area. She was married to Harry Besmer on October 19, 1942 in Jamison, NE, They made their first home in the Jamison area for several years where their two children - Jim and Kathy_ were born. After renting and farming in several places they bought the Green Parrot Tavern in Gregory in 1957 where Emma was the cook and bartender. They have lived in Gregory since that time. In 1965 they sold the Green Parrot and then Emma began housekeeping and doing babysitting. Her husband passed away in 1983 and Emma continued to live in their home. She developed her talent for crafts, especially woodworking art and she decorated her home with different holiday scenes and other artistic pieces that she made. She also kept busy mowing lawns, raising flowers and gardening. Emma was happy when she could be busy making something or cooking. She loved her grandchildren and lived in her home until June of this year. She passed away on July 18, 2009, at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, two sisters Stella Turnovec and Helen Birger and two brothers John and Ed Birger, and by a grandchild Krista Reber.
