Memorial services will be held 2:30 pm Friday at the chapel at the Story County Hospital Long – Term Care Unit in Nevada, Iowa with Rev. Emma May Smith was born May 16, 1935 in New Albany Township, Story County, Iowa a daughter of Henry Samuel and Ethel Ione (Troup) Wax. She graduated from high school with the class of 1953 at Maxwell, Iowa. On August 15, 1953 Emma was united in marriage with William Earl Smith, Sr. Emma was a devoted mother and homemaker. She volunteered with many community organizations including sponsoring Peace Corp couples, helping to organize the Mid Iowa Community Action Agency and worked with the PEERS Program for Heartland Services until she was 70 years of age. Emma enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning and spending time with her family and always welcomed friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children: John (Margita) Smith, Lake Elsinore, California; Kaye (Charlie) Henry, Topeka, KS; Bill Smith, Dumont; Earnie (Pam) Smith, Nevada; Penny (Terry) McCaslin, Sheffield; Henry (Diane) Smith, Osage; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters: Wilma Oxley & Adeline Bishop and brother-in-law Don Vancise all of Nevada and 13 Nieces and Nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband William Earl Smith, sister: Mary Vancise, nephew: Owen Oxley, 2 brothers-in-law Charles Bishop & Howard Oxley.
