GROSHANS, 48-YEAR RESIDENT Mrs. Emma Groshans, a resident of this community for 48 years, passed away early Friday morning, December 16, at Melissa Memorial Hospital here. She was 81 years of age. Mrs. Groshans suffered a heart attack at her home last Thursday afternoon, December 15. Funeral services were conducted at Zion Lutheran Church of Holyoke at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, with Rev. Theodore Schauland of Amherst officiating due to the illness of Rev. James Pomeroy, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Meyer, Emma Meyer was born at Halifax, Minnesota on April 26, 1885. While she was still a baby, the family moved to Oak, Nebraska where she grew to womanhood. In 1912 she was united in marriage with Louis Groshans. Mr. and Mrs. Groshans made their home on a farm south of Deshler, Nebraska, until moving to the Holyoke community in 1918. They resided on a farm until 1936, when they established their home in Holyoke. Mr. and Mrs. Groshans were the parents of three children, two of whom survive. Mrs. Groshans enjoyed participation in several organizations. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a charter member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid and a weekly Bible study group. Preceding her in death were her husband, who passed away in November 1940, and one son, Louis Jr. who died in December 1964. Survivors include two daughters, LaVada, Mrs. Arthur Vollmer, and Dorothy, Mrs. Waldon K. Machamer, both of Holyoke; two sisters, Mrs. J.R. Hoffman, Oak, Nebraska and Mrs. Henry Behring, Deshler, Nebraska; one brother, Ernest Meyer, Superior, Nebraska; two sons-in-law; and six grandchildren. Those from a distance who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Henry Behring, Mrs. Herb Hornbustel, Mrs. Helen Grupe and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Behring, Deshler, Nebraska; Mrs. Merton Urbauer and Mrs. John Meyer, Davenport, Nebraska; Mrs. J.R. Hoffman and Vic Hoffman, Oak, Nebraska; Mrs. Jens Hansen, North Platte, Nebraska; Al Hoffman, Loveland; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Mussman, Greeley; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Groshans and Mrs. Harold Jenkins Jr., Julesburg; Edwin Groshans and Mrs. Jess McBride, Sidney, Nebraska; and Mrs. Harold Schussler, Potter, Nebraska. Mrs. Julius R. Hoffman received a call Friday afternoon that her sister, Mrs. Emma Groshans of Holyoke, Colo. had suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after noon that day. Mrs. Groshans was here about a month ago and enjoyed the birthday party for Mrs. Hoffman and visited other relatives at Deshler and Superior. Surviving are her family in Holyoke, Ernest Meyer, a brother at Superior, Mrs. J.R. Hoffman of Oak, and Mrs. H.F. Behring of Deshler are the sisters.
