Read More	Pauline Couchman January 20, 1928 - June 13, 2021 Obituary Emma Pauline Couchman was born on January 20, 1928 in Davis County, Iowa the oldest daughter of Oscar and Edna (Helmick) Leonard. She was later followed by Marilyn, Dewayne, and June. She passed away on June 13, 2021 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, Iowa. She met the love of her life Claris Couchman at a church camp in Ottumwa, Iowa. After Claris returned home from the Army, Pauline and Claris were married at the Ash Grove Methodist church on September 28, 1947. To this union three daughters were born: Sharon, Sherral, and Sandra. Claris and Pauline made their life on a farm near Sewal, Iowa where Pauline was involved in all aspects of farm life, while raising their daughters. She always raised a large garden and she loved growing a huge variety of beautiful flowers. Pauline especially enjoyed it when friends or family would visit, and if you were blessed to share a meal with them, you know you never went home hungry and usually would go home with a meal for later. Pauline always put everyone else first. In the summer of 1993 Claris and Pauline sold the farm and built a new home in Corydon, where they enjoyed a quiet and peaceful life just spending time with each other. She still raised beautiful flowers which was the envy of the neighborhood. After Claris passed away, Pauline moved to senior housing in Corydon where she made lots of friends and reconnected with old ones. One of her favorite past times was playing cards on Friday afternoons. At times, her family had to wait their turn because you didn't mess with card time. In October 2017 Pauline made her move to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, Iowa. She always said it was not home, but she never complained and she made the best of it. Here again, she touched so many lives. Some of her care givers told Pauline's family that they were known to argue on who would get to take care of her for the day. In her final days there were numerous people stopping by her room for a visit, many on their days off. We feel Pauline will leave a legacy at St. Francis Manor for her kindness and caring of others. She never complained and never wanted anyone to rearrange their schedules for her. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons-in-law: Don Pugh, Dennis Hampton, and Gene LaFollette, sisters: Marilyn Carlisle and June, brothers-in-law: Marion Thomasson, Raymond Couchman, Irvin Couchman, and Darwin Morris, and sisters-in-law: Ruby Couchman, Coy Couchman, and Naomi Morris. Left to cherish her memory are children: Sharon LaFollette, Sherral Mamer (Roger), Sandra McMurry (Cliff), brother Dewayne Leonard (Shirley), grandchildren: Melissa Ewing (Tim), Michael Pugh (Amber), Amber Smith (Steve), and Danielle Prince (Richard), great grandchildren; Brice Mehrhoff (Affton), JC Ewing (Crystal), Tarren Mehrhoff (Logan Lorraine), Hogan and Avery Rockhold, Cole and Reese Prince, Kellen, Kiefer and Kemree Pugh, great-great grandchildren: Remmie and Colt Mehrhoff, Lara and Henry Ewing, and Aria Hernandez, extended family: Tracy and Michelle McMurry, Scott and Ashley McMurry, Kydon and Maverick Kaster, Dylan and Brandi McMurry, Kasper, Tim, and Teresa Roberts, Tyler, Bailey, Grayson, Knox, and Bodi Griffin, Jarrett, Jessica, Sophie, and Adeline Sheets, a host of nieces, nephews and several good friends. Her special friend Carol Hall, who was her roommate at St. Francis, was a very good buddy; Pauline had adopted Carol as her sister that she never had. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Leroy Perkins officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9-10:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Corydon Cemetery.
