Law enforcement authorities said Mrs. Emma Zmolek was found dead in the home, and death could have possibly been several weeks ago. Sheriff Milo Quigley found the dead woman when he went to get Mrs. Zmolek’s daughter, Blanche Zmolek, about 54, to take her to a scheduled mental hearing before the Tama County Insanity Commission Thursday afternoon. The sheriff had to force the house door to gain entry. Dr. C. W. Maplethorpe Jr., Tama county medical examiner, said Mrs. ZmolekÂ’s death was due to natural causes. He said, however, it was not determined how long she had been dead. The daughter had cared for her mother for many years. Neighbors said they were devoted to each other and lived without communicating with neighbors or relatives. Only rarely did Miss Zmolek go outside their home to purchase needed grocery items. She had been seen outside by neighbors a couple of times the past few days, however. Miss Zmolek was interviewed by the Tama County Insanity Commission while in the sheriff’s auto outside the courthouse Thursday and ruled mentally ill. She was taken to the Mental Health Institute in Independence. Born in 1879 As Emma Motycka, she was born March 24, 1879. She was married to John M. Zmolek on February 11, 1902, the wedding taking place at St. Vaclav Church near Clutier. He died June 24, 1956. They farmed north of Toledo until retiring to Toledo about 15 years ago. Mrs. Zmolek is survived by her daughter, Blanche, and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held Monday morning, October 6, at 10 o’clock at St. Vaclav Catholic Church near Clutier with the Rev. Francis Ruzicka officiating. St. Vaclav church choir sang, with Mrs. Donald McLean playing the organ. In charge of mass cards were Mrs. Fred Kubik and Mrs. Madeline Kearney. Caring for the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Albin Husak. Bearers were Vince Novotny, Charles Parizek, Peter Zmolek, Charles Svoboda, Joseph Zmolek,, and Phil Kucera. Burial was in St. Vaclav church cemetery. The rosary was recited at 8 o’clock Sunday evening at the Funeral Home, led by Charles Svoboda.
