WILLIAM HELGENS The sad news of the death of Mrs. William Helgens reached Monticello, last Tuesday. Mrs. Helgens died at a sanitarium in Ft. Dodge, where she had gone to seek relief from tuberculosis, with which she was afflicted. It seems the disease first made itself evident a year ago, and she submitted to an operation in which two tubercular glands were removed. June 14, 1920, she went to Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where she was given some electrical treatments with the hope that they might benefit her, but they proved a failure. She remained for a week at a sanitarium in Anamosa, and from there went to Ft. Dodge, where she remained for two weeks prior to her death, which occurred Tuesday morning at 3:15 o'clock. Emma Sopia Helgens (nee Belling) a daughter of Gustav and Mary Wolf Belling, was born July 5, 1894, at Landrian, Lankrichen, in the province of Holstein, Germany. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church in the town of her birth. April 4, 1909. When she was 17-years of age she came to the United States alone and settled In Scotch Grove township. She was married to William Helgens, January 5, 1916. Mr. and Mrs. Helgens started housekeeping on a farm in Wayne township, which had since been their home. In addition to the husband, Mrs. Helgens is survived by two children, Wilma, three- and one-half years of age, and Richard two years of age. She is also survived by her parents., Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Belling, of Scotch Grove township, and five sisters, viz: Mrs. Harm Behnken of Scotch Grove township, Mrs. Peter Jacobsen of Fayette County, Mrs. Ben Thuman of Scotch Grove township, and Misses Agnew and Dora Belling, who live at home. She is also survived by one brother, Emil Belling of Scotch Grove township. The funeral services were held this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the family home, where a short prayer was offered by Rev. John Willms, he pastor of the Wayne Center Lutheran church. The final services were held at the Wayne Lutheran church at 1:15 this afternoon and burial was had at the cemetery adjoining the church * * * * * * *
