Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Ben Worley will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday. Pallbearers will be Roger Neyens, Doug Bundy, Ken Tucker, Kevin Van Sickle, Brandon Carpenter, and Bob Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Emma Theresa Lubben was born on February 18, 1914, in Lahoma, Oklahoma, to Martin and Gretje (Eilerts) Frerichs. She was baptized on March 15, 1914 in Oklahoma. At the age of three her family moved to Howard, South Dakota. At age five they relocated to the Struble, Iowa, area. Emma was confirmed on April 1, 1928, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. She attended country school through the eighth grade. On September 30, 1937, Emma and Albert G. Lubben were united in marriage at her parents' home. They were blessed with four children, Dennis, Ronald, Betty, and Gerald. Prior to their marriage Emma worked as a "hired girl" at several different places, doing housecleaning and caring for others' children. During their marriage, the couple farmed near Craig, Iowa. At Christ Lutheran Emma served on the Flower Committee, helped with quilting, lunches, and dinners. She enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, baking, and gardening. One of the highlights of Emma's life was a trip to Germany to visit her relatives. She loved and enjoyed all of her family. Her great-grandchildren called her the cookie grandma. Following her husband's death in 1970, Emma moved to Le Mars. She spent the last three years at Plymouth Manor Care Center. She will be lovingly remembered by her son and his wife, Dennis and Linda Lubben, daughter and husband Betty and Oral Van Sickle, both of Le Mars, and a son and his wife, Gerald and Judy Lubben of Remsen, IA; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Doering of Beverly Hills, CA, Kevin and Lia Van Sickle of Le Mars, Julie and Doug Bundy of Akron, IA, Kelli and Ken Tucker of Harrisburg, SD, Gerrie Lynn Lubben and Brandon Carpenter of Rockwell, IA, Lori and Roger Neyens of Le Mars, and Krystal and Aaron Spangler of Aurora, CO; 8 great-grandchildren, Brady Detloff, Brandon and Ashley Neyens, Quinn and Autumn Bundy, Christian and Nicholas Tucker, and Jaxson Spangler; 4 step- grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert in 1970; a son, Ronald in 1968; a brother, John Frerichs; and a sister, Margaret Renken.
