Description	:	"From the Nashua Reporter of Iowa - The news of the death of Grandma Van Auken, which occurred at the home of her son, Ed, at 10 o'clock Saturday night, was quite a shock to most of our citizens, as it was not generally known that she she had been ill. For the past several years she had been an invalid, being a sufferer from heart trouble, but about two weeks ago she was first confined to her bed. For the past several years she had been an invalid, being a sufferer from heart trouble, but about two weeks ago she was first confined to her bed. On Thursday she dropped into a comatose state from which she never rallied. Miss Emma Van Vaulkenburgh [VanValkenburg] was born in Pennsylvania March 23, 1834. On Dec. 31, 1849, she was married to J.W. Van Auken, who died at Lawler Aug. 18, 1896. Four sons were born to this union, two dying in infancy. The two surviving are Charles L. of Lawler and and Ed N. of this [Nashua] city. In 1902 she was married again to J.M. Califf, of Lawler, who died May 10, 1905. Since then she had made her home with her son in Nashua. A brief service conducted by Rev. Sinden was held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m. and the remains were conveyed to Lawler the following morning, were the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. She leaves three sisters to mourn her loss, Mrs. Mary Wilber of Waterloo [New York] and Cynthia TenBroeck and Mrs. Kate Messinger of Newark, N. Y."
