B-5: Fisherman Dies After Boat Capsizes Emmett Dewey Gill, 71, of 612 Tule Lake Road, was dead on arrival at Lakewood General Hospital Wednesday after the boat from which he was fishing in American Lake capsized. Gill was with 9-year-old Michael Patterson, 712 Tule Lake Road, about 30 feet from shore, Deputy Sheriff Lee Paddock reported. The boy said the 7-foot plastic boat capsized when Gill attempted to turn around. He said he hung onto the overturned boat, but Gill started to swim for shore. He swam only a few strokes when he went under, the boy said. It is not known if he drowned or died of a heart attack. Mr. Gill was born in Vader and lived in Tacoma 37 years. He was a retired sawyer. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret DeJiacomo, of Commerce City, Colo.; a brother Mose, Randle; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be announced by Oakwood Funeral Home.
