Zion to William J. and Nancy Rupe Ewing. He married Esther Thomas March 7, 1933 at Lancaster, Missouri. He was employed in the Maintenance of Way department of the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1972, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. "Chief" Ewing, 84, of Keosauqua died at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1993 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born October 12, 1908 near Mt. Zion to William J. and Nancy Rupe Ewing. Surviving are his wife, Esther of Country Lane Apartments, Keosauqua, a daughter, Edna Lewman of Keosauqua, 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A grandson preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of a family of 12 children. Funeral services were Friday, January 8, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. At Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Reverend Gerald Caughron officiating, with burial in Bonaparte Cemetery. Memorials to Van Buren Good Samaritan Center may be left at the funeral home.
