Obituary: THE CLEARWATER RECORD Sept 19, 1919 page 1 Emery Augustus Chace, son of Elnathan Holder and Lucina Chace, was born at East Claridon, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1846, and departed this life at his home in Clearwater, Nebr., on Sept. 10, 1919, at age 72 yrs., 11 mos. and 10 days. The deceased was the sixth child of a family of ten children and also a twin, a sister, Emily Augusta, who is now Mrs. Emily Hale of East Claridon, Ohio. Mr. Chace grew to manhood at the place of his birth and at the call of his country, on Sept. 16, 1864, enlisted in Co. K, 177 Reg. Ohio Vol. Inf., serving until June 24, 1865, at which time he received an honorable discharge. He was married to Miss Ella Jones at East Claridon, Ohio, Sept. 26, 1871. To this union was born six children, three sons and three daughters as follows: Lucina Artemissa, Wm. Elnathan, Geo. Sherman, Ralph Edmund, Elsie Mary, and Emma Marilla, all of which are living with the exception of the eldest, who died about 17 year ago. In the spring of 1885, the deceased with his family moved to Ewing, Holt County, Nebr., where he pre-empted a quarter section of land about 2 miles north of Ewing. Later he moved to Orchard, where the wife and mother died Sept. 5, 1897. On Oct., 15 1902, he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Theressa Thompson and since that time has lived in Clearwater, Nebr. Mr. Chace was a man loved and respected by all who knew him, pleasant and agreeable in all his dealings. He counted his friends by his acquaintances and will leave behind many to sorrow at his departure. He was sick but a short time but his suffering was intense. He was unconscious for some time before his death, but just before he passed away he rallied and called for his wife and children, and after bidding them goodbye, quietly passed away. Mr. Chace was a Member of M. W. A. and held his membership in Clearwater. Members of the order assisted at the funeral as pall bearers. He leaves to mourn his death a wife, five children, one brother, three sisters, twenty-four grandchildren and four step children. The funeral was held from the Fraternity hall in Clearwater, Saturday, Sept. 13, 1919, by Elder F. B. Dwigans, of Orchard, Nebr. The remains were laid in the Ewing cemetery beside his former wife. A Large company of sympathizing friends gathered for the last sad rites. A profusion of flowers covered the casket, tokens of the esteem in which he was held. Contributor: Gloria Brethour (47535598)
