Read More	Mr. E. Wilson Griffin, only son of Mr. E. M. Griffin, died last Saturday morning as a result of a broken leg received by a fall from a pony buggy. The circumstances surrounding his death make it the saddest that has occurred here in a long time. Last Tuesday afternoon Mr. Griffin was driving a small pony hitched to a buggy. It had been a custom with him to make the pony go at full speed by waiving his hat to frighten it. He was thus urging the pony on for amusement, with the lines hanging over the dashboard, when it made a sudden turn on the embankment near the residence of Mr. W. S. Blakeney and upset the buggy. Mr. Griffin was thrown out and his left leg was broken just above the ankle. He got up, aught the pony and hitched it to a tree. Mr. T. C. Lee, who got to him first, says the bone was actually sticking through the skin and resting on the ground. The wounded man was taken to the Monroe hospital and the wound was dressed as best it could be in the shattered condition of the limb. Mr. Griffin was very anxious that his foot should be saved, but by Friday it was seen that amputation was necessary, gangrene having set in. Dr. Pressley of Charlotte and the local doctors took off the leg early Friday evening. The patient rallied and became conscious, but soon after midnight became unconscious and remained so until he died at six o'clock Saturday morning. The deceased was 25 years old on the 21st of last October. Just two years before the day of his death he was married to Miss Etta Williamson, and she, with a little daughter just seven months old, survives him. The young man was a generous minded, open-hearted, manly young fellow, and his death, so unexpected and so terrible, threw a sadness over the community such as is seldom felt. a perfect specimen of health and strength, he reveled in the high spirits of youth and the pleasures of physical well being. A week ago he would have been the very last one that would have thought of as going to eternity. It was his very love of life and vigor that caused his death, and in speaking of the accident he said, "Don't blame the pony, it was all my fault." Mr. Griffin was an expert horseman, and had driven hundreds of wild horses, and yet it was left for the harmless little pony to cause his death. The funeral was held fro the Baptist church Sunday morning and the building was crowded to its utmost capacity, all the churches of the town having suspended the regular morning service, and Rev. Messrs. Ware of the Methodist, Atkinson of the Presbyterian, and Watson of the Baptist church taking part. A large procession followed the casket from the residence of Mrs. Williamson, where the body was taken to await burial, to the church and thence to the cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Neil Redfearn, Clyde Morgan, Rufus Armfield, C. W. Bruner, R. Redfearn and Dr. J. M. Belk. As mentioned above the deceased is survived by a heart-broken young wife and a sweet little daughter who was just learning to list the sweet little word "Papa." There is also the fond father, who, like David of old, cries, "My son, my son, would to God that I had died for thee," and two sisters, Mrs. D. M. Austin of Charlotte and Mrs. W. L.
