The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Associated with the business activities of Lennox approximately half a century ago was Harry R Wolff. Mr. Wolff, born 12, 1859 at Ostfriesland, Germany, was a young lad of about eight years of age when his parents came to the United States. They settled at Steamboat Rock, IA., in Harden County, and after one year there moved to a farm near Wellsburg, in Grundy County, IA. He was married November 24, 1886 to Miss Lena Haan, the wedding taking place in the home of the bride. In the fall of 1887 they moved to George, IA., where Mr. Wolff became engaged in the mercantile business and after three years the family moved to Lennox where Mr. Wolff continued his mercantile enterprise for nearly 10 years. He then entered the real estate business which he conducted several years. Mrs. Wolff was born in Ostfriesland, Germany, November 24, 1864. When she was a child of but 10 years her parents immigrated to this country and settled at Parkersburg, Butler County, IA. Three children were born to this union, namely: Roy H., Alice and Grace W. (Phillips), Mr. and Mrs. Wolff joined the Ebenezer Presbyterian church in 1896. She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbor lodge here, and he of the Modern Woodmen unit here. Mr. Wolff passed away July 1, 1936, a few months short of their golden wedding date. The following is the obituary in the Lennox, SD newspaper. Mrs. Wolff, nee Lena Haan, was born in Ostfriesland, Germany on Oov. 24, 1864. When she was a child of ten years her parents immigrated to this country and settled at Parkersburg, Ia. There she grew to womanhood and on Nov. 24, 1886 was married to Harry R. Wolff. In the fall of 1887 the couple moved to George, IA, where Mr. Wolff became engaged in the merchantile business. There they lived for three years and in 1890 the family came to Lennox and here Mr. Wolff continued in the merchantile buiness for nearly ten years, later entering the real estate business. Three children were born to this union. Deceased is survived by one son, Roy H. of Lennox, and two daughter, Mrs. O. D. Phillips and Alice Wolff of Sioux Falls; also two grandchildren and a brother, John Haan of Rock Rapids, IA
