Read More	News and Courier February 3 1943 ESC Baker Dies Last Rites Today Conway Lawyer was a Past Grand Master of State's Masons Conway Feb 2 Special Enoch Silvis Carroll Baker fifty six year old member of the Conway bar died at the Conway Hospital shortly before 8 o'clock this morning following an illness of several months. He was born in the Baker's Chapel section of Horry County July 25 1886 son of the lat John G and Mrs Louisa Allen Baker. After finishing school in his community he entered the Citadel from which he was graduated with the class of 1908. He then taught in Conway school and in other schools of the county. In 1912 he entered the law school of the University of South Carolina from which he was graduated in 1913. For a short time he practiced law in Lake City with the late Senator Philip H Arrowsmith. From Lake City he came to Conway and became a partner in the firm of Norton & Baker. This partnership Mr Baker was editor was editor of the Conway Field. He gave up this work to devote full time to his growing practice, which he continued until his health failed. He was identified with religious affairs of the Peedee section serving one term as moderator of the Baptist association. He was superintendent of the local Baptist church school and until a few months ago taught its Men's Bible Class. He was a past grand master of Masons in South Carolina and in 1933 represented the Grand Lodge of South Carolina at the dedication of the Masonic peace memorial in London. His address on this occasion received favorable comment from the late King George. He was interested in civic and educational affairs of Conway having served as trustee of the public schools and also as county attorney. He served one term as chairman of the Horry County Democratic Committee and at the country convention in 1940 made the principal address. He was twice elected to the general assembly his last term serving as assembly his last term serving as chairman of the judiciary committee of the house. He made two race of congress from the sixth district receiving large votes each time. On June 28 1914 he was married to Miss Pearl Allen of Darlington who with three daughters survives. The daughters are Mrs Peggy Page of Aynor and Misses Alice and Vera Baker of Conway. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
