Grimes, one of our oldest citizens, died Monday morning about four o'clock with a general decline of health and heart trouble. He has been quite poorly all winter but was thought not to be serious. Mr. Grimes has always been in business here until about a year ago when he with his family moved to the country where they lived until a few weeks ago they moved back to town. His son, Grissom, who resides here, was at his bedside at the time of his death; their other children were here to attend the funeral, Mart and children, from Leon; John and wife, from Nebraska; Oscar and wife, from Gillman City; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Mitchell, from Des Moines; Mrs. Sam Lawhead, from Amity, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm Westfall, of Weldon. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church conducted by Rev. Coffin, of the Leon Christian church, and the body laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery... **** The Davis City Advance Davis City, Iowa Thursday, March 2l, l90l "E.S. GRIMES and his good wife today celebrate their 40th anniversary of their wedding. They were married near Homer in Champaign Co., Ill. and have weathered the storms of 40 years together. Eight children have been born to them - 5 boys and 3 girls. All are still living in and near Decatur County, but one boy who died in infancy. The terrible roads prevented a family reunion, but these living here helped dispose of a sumptuous dinner prepared by Mother GRIMES. May they celebrate their diamond wedding before they part." **** Son of Mark Grimes and Rebecca Pickard. He married Elizabeth Thompson 13 Mar 1861 in Champaign Co., Illinois. Enos and Elizabeth had at least seven children, Mila Jane, Mark F., Zemina Adeline "Minnie", Viola, John R., Oscar Eugene, and Gillian G. Grimes.
