Also, Silas and Charles Moreyserved in "Capt. Jacob Marston's Company" in VT in 1780-81. According to Rev. War files: "Morey Silas, Elizabeth, W9208 NY Line... they had a family of 10 children of which 3 were living in 1837 and the oldest was Jerusha Miller who was aged on 30 Oct. 1836 widow applied 15 Apr 1837 Washington Co., OH aged 87, sol enl in Dutchess Co., NY, a daughter Elizabeth Abbott was aged 52 in 1837, the daughter Jerusha Miller was of Stephentown, NY in 1837. A Morey listed next to Jonathan Morey in Ames (Athens), OH, USA during 1820 Fed. Census. Is probably Silas. For Future Reference: The only Silas MOREY listed in the 1790 Fed. census of NY (3 males >16, 3 males <16, & 3 females) living in Chemung Town (Montgomery Co.). There was also a John HARVEY listed in Chemung Town in 1790. In the 1800 Fed. Census of NY, there were 2 Silas Moreys, one in Otswego Co. and the other in Ontario Co. No Silas listed in NY during 1810 and 1820, but one in Monroe Co. during 1830 aged 50. 1840 aged 60, no Silas listed in NY. No Silas in 1790 Fed. Census of VT or RI either. There was a Silas Morey b. abt. 1706 in Plymouth, Mass. to Jonathan (1661-1733) and Hannah (Bourne -1667-1732). Jonathan and Hannah m. 24 Jan. 1689/90 in Plymouth, Mass. This Jonathan was b. to Jonathan (abt. 1633-1708) & Mary (Bartlett -1634-1692). Info from Joyzelle Morey. Because of various names in family, I strongly suspect that this Silas (1706-?) to be the father of or relative of this subject Silas. For example, Silas' (1706) father was Jonathan (Morey / Benson's eldest son was Jonathan) and Elizabeth Benson's father may have been William Benson (Morey / Benson 's 2nd son was William). A Silas Morey living in Plymouth Town (Plymouth), Mass. during the 1790 Fed. Census (1 Male 16+, 1 male 16-, & 2 females). A Silas MOREY listed as head of household in 1800 Fed. Census as living in Ontario Co., NY. A William MOREY also listed in 1800 Ontario Co. I STRONGLY SUSPECT that this is THIS Silas & his son, Wm. *N.B. While this Silas was in the army in VT, his "commanding officer" was "Jacob MARSTON" (AKA John MASTERS). During the 1800 Fed. Census of Fairlee (Orange), VT, there were John (0-1-1-0-1 & 2-0-1-0-0-0) & Peter (3-2-0-1-0 & 2-0-1-0-1-0) "MARSTON" families that were neighbors to several MOREY families. *N.B. In Rutland Co., VT, there was a township named "BENSON." Silas m. Elizabeth BENSON. 1746, according to Mormon Ancestral Files. Born in "MA, RI, or CT," according to Judy Schmick. 1746 according to Irv Morey. Leicester (Worcester), MA, according to Geoffrey Williams. Also listed in "Veteran Grave Registration," "W/DD 1825-Rev." No cemetery listed. Enlisted in Dutchess Co., NY-NY Line. Served in Capt. Jacob Marston's Company. A Charles Morey served in the same company as a corporal. "Reverend Silas Morey" according to info via Geoffrey Williams. "The first settlement in the town of Addison was made by Samuel Rice in 1791. Reuben and Lemuel Searles, Oliver Miller, George Goodhue, John Martin, Jonathan Tracy, Abel White, James Benham, Asahel Stiles, Silas Morey Elisha Gilbert, William Wombough, and Martin Young were among the first settlers," according to Steuben Co. History. Notes (Family #1) General: According to Judy Schmick, "They lived in Kinderhook, NY 1780's, maybe before, & Steuben Co., NY 1790's. Deeds for 1799. Had 10 children. Some went to OH with him such as Wm. & Anda Martin & Jonathan who md Margaret Columbia (de la Colombe) in Athens Co., OH 1818. Elizabeth & sp John Abbott, others I don't if they followed or not. Jerusha md a Miller in NY. Silas d 1825 Washington Co., OH. Other Morey Mowry's there were related I'm sure, but do not know how as I can't find parents of Silas or siblings." FOR FUTURE REFERENCE:"An unplaced David MORY (sic) also served from Dutchess County & he was b. in RI per his pension application," according to Frank Doherty, author of "The Settlers of the Beekman Patent."
