Description	:	Ephraim Hay was born on May 15, 1840 in Richland County, Ohio. His mother was Barbara Myers who was born in Pennsylvania. His father was born in Pennsylvania and may have died in Ohio sometime between 1840 and his mother's marriage to Henry Fellers in October 1843. His mother was Barbara Myers who was born in Pennsylvania. His father was born in Pennsylvania and may have died in Ohio sometime between 1840 and his mother's marriage to Henry Fellers in October 1843. Ephraim enlisted in Company D, 81st Infantry Regiment Ohio as a Private on September 1, 1861 at the age of 21 and mustered out on September 26, 1864. He lived in Hancock County from his childhood until his first marriage on November 20, 1864 to Julia Ann Hall. They had one son, Jacob Hay, born on February 5, 1867 in Wyandot County, Ohio. Julia died in Hancock County on August 29, 1868. Jacob died on May 7, 1941 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio. On April 16, 1870, Ephraim married Catherine Crist, daughter of Daniel Crist and Catharine Smith, in Kosciusko County, Indiana. They lived in Pierceton, Indiana in 1870 and by 1880 lived in Van Wert County before moving to Defiance County. Ephraim had six children with Catherine: Clarence S. Hay, born 1872, died May 13, 1963 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was buried in Fremont, Ohio with his first (1893-1917) as well as third wife (1948 until her death in 1958), Mary Anna Herbert. His name is on the headstone of his second wife, Alice Loretta Wagner (married 1918 until her death in 1940), in White Cloud, Newaygo County, Michigan. Millie J. Hay, born 1873, married Charles Thomas on December 15, 1890, died on December 28, 1956 and was buried in Marion, Ohio. Anna Hay, born 1875, married Andrew Martin Parmenter on May 21, 1893, and died from typhoid fever November 1896 in Payne, Ohio. She gave birth to a daughter, Christina Mae Parmenter on January 1, 1896. Upon Anna's death, Christina lived with Ephraim and Catharine. Icy R Hay, born January 9, 1878, married George Albert Krontz on May 1, 1895, and died of consumption (pulmonary tuberculosis) on July 11, 1904 in Hicksville, Ohio. Ira Ephraim Hay, born February 9, 1882 and died at his parents' home from consumption (pulmonary tuberculosis) on January 8, 1901. Oscar Hay, born 1886 in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, Ohio and died of diptheria in November 1891 at Broughton, Ohio. Ephraim died in Defiance, Ohio on January 20, 1901 of consumption (pulmonary tuberculosis). At the time of his death, he resided at 941 Madison Street. He was buried in Kahlo Cemetery. Deceased was born May 15, 1840, and came to Defiance about eight years ago. He was a veteran of the civil war. A wife and four children survive. They are, Jacob of Defiance; Clarence S. of Fremont, Mrs. Geo. Krontz, of Hicksville, and Mrs. Chas. Thomas of Delphos. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the U.B. church, Rev. P. O. Rhodes officiating. Interment in Kahlo cemetery.
