Description	:	Ephraim J. Giedt, 95, died March 28, 2003, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck. Mr. Giedt worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Bismarck for 35 years. He later was the custodian and tourist information specialist at the Camp Hancock Museum. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck. Mr. Giedt worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Bismarck for 35 years. He later was the custodian and tourist information specialist at the Camp Hancock Museum. As a youth in Ashley, he was a 40 year varsity guard for the Ashley High school football team, winning letters in the sport and the nickname "Giant." He was the high school's last surviving alumnus. His big hands and quick mind also brought him a state championship for speed and accuracy at the typewriter. He was born April 11, 1907, at Venturia, the son of Theodore and Rosina Giedt. He married Adina Breitling on June 4, 1933, in Venturia. They moved to Bismarck later that month. Mr. Giedt taught elementary classes in a one-room school in McIntosh County for seven years, but the Depression forced him out of teaching into his postal service position in Bismarck. A lifelong learner and North Dakota history buff, on retirement from the postal service he moved easily into the museum position, which he held for 15 years. He served for many years as the deacon of the First Baptist Church in Bismarck, and in other leadership positions in the congregation and was key in choosing the land and building now occupied by the Baptist Nursing home where he spent his later years, and the nearby park. He also served as a Boy Scouts of America scoutmaster for six years. He assisted in the construction of the church's present building. Mr. Giedt and his wife of 70 years, Adina, used their retirement to visit almost every state capitol and their extended family. He is survived by his brother, Paul Giedt, Steele; his sister, Elvina Hoff, Ashley; his children, Virginia and son-in-law William Thompson, Bellevue, Wash., Mary and son-in-law Gordon Schlafmann, Appleton, Wis., and twins, John Giedt, Lakewood. Colo., and Sondra Jo and son-in-law Edward Stattmann, Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In leiu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bismarck Baptist Home, First Baptist Church Youth or N.D. Historical Society.
