Description	:	Ephram/Ephraim "Ed" was tall, slender and had a full beard. He was a farmer and carpenter who built barns. When he first came North in 1863 he thought he purchased a deed to a piece of land which was later discovered to be the property of a Miami Indian and he lost it. The story is told that Ephram was forced off his farm by one of his sons when he became too old and feeble to work the land. He was a farmer and carpenter who built barns. When he first came North in 1863 he thought he purchased a deed to a piece of land which was later discovered to be the property of a Miami Indian and he lost it. The story is told that Ephram was forced off his farm by one of his sons when he became too old and feeble to work the land. The son was publicly denounced in the Brethren Church and as they say, the feud was on. He married Elizabeth Sarah Leazenby on August 8th, 1861 in Wabash, Wabash Co., Indiana. Between 1862 and 1876 they had 4 boys and 3 girls. Their names in the order of their birth are: William Roland, Ann Margaret, Joseph Allen, Emiline, Jesse, Florence and Ora Welman. After Elizabeth died in 1879 Ephram married Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" (Haynes) Searles on 8 July 1880 in Wabash Co., Indiana. No children were born to Ephram and Sarah. Family history reports that Sarah smoked a pipe and there was some sort of hostility towards both her and Ephraim. Some say she was an Indian but we do know that they lived on the Miami Indiana Reservation for many years. In the 1960s,numerous small cemeteries were moved by the US Corps of Engineers in order to create the Mississinewa Reservoir. The graves were moved and the Mississinewa Memorial Cemtery was created. The cemetery records state that Ephraim died in 1898. However,the Grant Co., Indiana Death Transcripts state that Ephraim died 04 Feb 1901 and were signed by his eldest son William Roland Brock. The release for the Corps was signed by Allen Brock in the 1960s and is incorrect. At least one family member's release was signed by Thomas Brock (possibly for Elizabeth) but I have not found this record. Elizabeth is buried in the Mississinewa (formerly Ogan ) Cemtery next to Ephraim.
